BOAT PROJECT AND CARRYING OUT
HULL
To build the fibreglass model we proceeded step by step. First you have to prepare a master made of a wood frame that is put on a surface where you will fix the planking by following the water lines. After accurate sandpaperings and plasters, you will give a coat of removing wax to carry out the final stamp.
After you will proceed with the bedding of the interior of the stamp with glass fabric and epoxy resin by using basis weight from 160 gr/mq to 300 gr/mq whereas there are zones with a great stress. The same you have to do do for the other parts, like the deck, the cockpit, and the stepboard. The project Estreme has the opportunità to built a boat with cockpit or totally closed.
In the project with the cockpit, the winch is put at prow near the foremast,
the radio tin in the middle of the cockpit between the foremast and the rafter mainsheet.t
This rational disposition of the weights makes a constructive and useful simplification: you will avoid to install fairleads and pulleys; the lock of the tin that contains the electronics and the batteries is at the same level of the cockpit, so that it is easier to change quartz and batteries.
The project with closed cockpit has the advantage to have a good interior impermeability of the hull, because the causes of possible water infiltration are remarkably reduced. Just equipments like the front and the back sheet are exposed to water infiltrations. Consequently, if we consider the weight balance, the stands and the electronics disposition is the following: the radio tin will be placed on the left, in the middle of the cockpit, and on the right a fiberglass basement will be placed, and on it will be seated both the winch and the rudder stand. The rudder controls will be seated below deck.
FIN
The FIN is made with carbon fabric stratification made of roving stiffeners in a aluminium stamp, vacuum-packed and in a uniform temperature, and we put inside a carbon alveolar. With this process the product will be extremely slim and remarkably stiff. For both the solutions, with or without the cockpit, the board is standard, and you will have in both the chance to take the bulb off, in order to make trim operations and to have an easier carriage.
RUDDER The rudder manufacture is in aluminium stamp, too. You have to make a carbon fabric stratification with epoxy resin, while axle is made with a steel round bar of 4 mm.
BULB The bulb is made of a alloy lead in a stamp, and then well-finished, till the project worths, with a computer-based turning process. Then we make the step for the board. We have at the moment many options: 1) Completed torpedo bulb with step of board and painting. 2) Carbon plated torpedo bulb with step of board. 3) A “gosling beak” flat bulb with step of board and painting. |
